Doug Stolfo, owner of Excalibur Coach, got his start in the custom home building industry. As early as the age of 16 he was working part time to help make people’s dreams a reality. When the lumber market headed south a few years later and the housing industry slowed, Doug set his sights on a different kind of “home” building. He entered the RV industry doing repairs and remodels on coaches.
While obtaining his Electrical Engineering degree, Doug was contacted by Marathon Coach. He spent the next many years building the service department at Marathon, expanding into a new facility with over 20 technicians to manage. At that time Marathon was turning out over 60 coaches a year and with Doug’s expertise, they became the major coach service center on the West Coast. “We concentrated on servicing our product,” Doug notes, “but we also made a special effort to help all customers by performing custom remodels on almost all brands.” He became very familiar with conversions on such familiar brands as Liberty, Vantare', Vision, Royale, Beaver and Executive, just to name a few.
Doug was then recruited out to the Midwest to operate a large repair shop specializing in chassis, engine and heavy equipment repair. Not long after that he was asked to be Field Service Representative for Prevost Car, and within a year became the branch manager of the Jacksonville, Florida facility. Doug’s two decades of motor home repair helped bring Prevost’s Jacksonville facility to the forefront. Large collision and motor home repair became the main focus of this branch. This was beneficial after the decline in Charter Coach industry immediately following the events of September 11, 2001. Some of his most notable collision repairs have been repairing an H3-45 that had been hit by a train and a XL that was parked and rear ended by a tractor-trailer going 75 mph.
Doug moved to Orlando in 2004 to pursue his own business. Excalibur Coach opened the doors to its 5,000 square foot facility in 2005. Doug’s vision was to open a facility with highly qualified personnel, outfit it with an arsenal of equipment and offer the customer a bumper to bumper service ability.
